New Shoes: Fluevog Adrianas

Adriana | Beezie loafers (on sale at Fluevog). I reviewed these at the Fluevog store on Melrose last fall and concluded that the size 6 (the smallest size made) was too big for me. However, when both the brown and green colorways went on super-steep sale at Amazon late last month, I couldn't help myself and purchased them both so I could try them on again and see if things would be different this time around. I've found that Amazon's stock of Fluevogs sometimes have small but significant differences from what's available at the stores. When I tried on the brown colorway from Amazon, I was disappointed to find that they were just as loose as the brown pair I tried on at the Melrose store. But the green colorway, amazingly, fit me quite well. Yes! *fist pump* (It's definitely possible that the green colorway just fits smaller than the brown and I didn't know that because I wasn't able to try on the size 6 in green at the Melrose store for some reason.)

They're not snug, but given that I plan to wear them with socks and tights in the fall and winter, they're perfect! That's the reason they're not included in my "What to Wear this Summer" list: they're meant for fall wear, although I may yet have a reason to wear them before then. Who knows?

In short, I'm so very glad I took the chance on these. I returned the brown colorway promptly, and lovingly added the green Beezies to my closet. Along with the Elizabeths and the series of green dresses that I bought and that were gifted to me in the last year, these shoes have finally satisfied my obsession with green. In real life, they're a little more olive than my photos suggest; their color is somewhere between the top photo and the two bottom photos. Overall, they're gorgeous shoes, and it's awesome to finally have a pair in the new and fantastic Adriana family of Fluevogs.

Wild Things

Google Doodle: Lovely tribute to Maurice Sendak for what would have been his 85th birthday (b. June 10, 1928)

Here's to a great, if not wild, Monday and a great week! It's going to be busy for us here. We're getting ready for my son's preschool graduation and a long-awaited vacation with family. I finally get to see my newest nephew, my older sister's second child. We just have to get through this week first!

Night Out in Stripes

I wore this outfit to an impromptu night out with my girlfriends last week. Check the dress off my list! It's one of the pieces I had to alter: the straps were too long which made the bodice gape indecently. I kept the dress instead of returning it because I really liked the fabric and design and thought that I could make it work. Even after the alteration, however, there's still some gaping as you can see. (Of course, if I had a bigger bust ... alas.) The alteration also hiked up the waistband so it's a little bit above my natural waistline; I can live with that. As for the straps, I'm thinking of doing something like this to create a bit of a sweetheart neckline while securing it at the same time. The stripe pattern might make it look weird. I'll keep you updated, whatever I decide.

My favorite part of the dress is the skirt, which is lined with a soft, crinkly cotton much like the striped fabric, and it's very full. I'd love to take it dancing (with some shorts underneath, of course).

Finally, a note on the shoes. I first wore these to my friend's disco party and danced the night away. They're completely broken in now, and they felt fantastic last week. They're incredibly comfortable and very stable despite the height. I danced in them, after all. I'll be the first to admit that they're not my prettiest pair of shoes, but I'm quite sure I'll wear them again this summer. :-)

Fifties-Inspired Fluevogs

Check these off my "What to Wear this Summer" list! These fun Fluevog saddle shoes, included in the previous post on unworn-to-be-worn shoes, actually saw some action last Saturday at a family party in Long Beach. It might seem like I cheated, but since I wrote the previous post (and just scheduled it to be published later) before wearing these out, I say it still counts! :-)

(Hmm, I think next time I wear this outfit, I'll skip the socks.) I wanted to wear the shoes with a 1950s vibe, so I wore the shirt even though it was a little too warm for the summer weather. I also wish my pants had been high-waisted instead, but at least I have a sewing pattern to make my own high-waisted denim capris (that hopefully fit better and end at the right length down my legs to avoid making them look shorter than they are). In fact, my outfit choice was inspired by this pic from the Butterick pattern I purchased earlier this year:

(I'd love to have legs that long!) This Butterick outfit would be perfect to make for the summer since the fabrics used are thinner than what's in my closet right now. But honestly I was just excited to wear the Fluevog shoes. Wondering now what to wear them with next.... If only I had a poodle skirt! But rolled-up jeans and thin oxford shirt would work, too. Or a fun red shirt and khaki shorts. I'd like to take these out dancing sometime. ;-)
